Whether you’re falling in love for the first time, dating, engaged or married, now is the time to be spontaneous and go on an adventure with a special someone!
10 Romantic Fall Date Ideas For You and Your Loved One:
Watch a Movie at a Drive-In
Drive-Ins are making a comeback! While we may not want to return to the cinema anytime soon, we at least have a fun, alternative movie viewing experience! You can enjoy privacy while watching the movie without distractions from other audience members. I like to make/pack snacks and drinks to take with me, but be sure to check the rules of your venue, as some locations won’t allow you to bring your own food!
Visit a Local Farm
Out of all of my fall date ideas, this one is definitely my favourite! For this one, you may want to consider visiting during off-peak hours to avoid large crowds. There may be a few safety restrictions in place, but farms often have a ton of fun activities for people to participate in during the fall! Hay Rides are one of my favourite activities, but I am also a HUGE fan of corn mazes! It’s a great opportunity to work together and put your skills to the test! I like to keep track of how long it takes for us to make it through, and each year we attempt to beat our previous record!
During your visit, you can also grab a few pumpkins from the pumpkin patch and go apple picking in the orchard! I also tend to stop by the “Farmer’s Market” to pick up a few other fresh fruits that I can use for baking delicious fall treats!
Spend a Day at a National Park
Fall is a great time to visit a national park and spend a day surrounded by gorgeous scenery and vibrant, colourful leaves! You can hike through various trails, take a boat out on the water, and have a romantic picnic lunch or dinner! Preparing for a picnic is a fun activity in itself as you can work together to plan and prep your meals and snacks! Depending on the rules of the parks in your area, you may even have the option to camp out! Wrap up your day by cuddling by the fire, toasting marshmallows, making s’mores and stargazing!
Try Baking Together
Baking is always more fun when you are working with others! There is an abundance of fall recipes to choose from, but the most festive activity would be to try baking a homemade pie! Many people seem to be intimidated at the prospect of baking a pie entirely from scratch. While there may be many steps involved, it isn’t nearly as difficult as people seem to think it is.
Back when the quarantine first began earlier this year, baking bread became a hot trend, and many people tried baking it for the first time! Step out of your comfort zone and give pie baking a try! You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much fun you will have, especially when you have someone baking with you!
Take a Tour of a Winery
Fall is a great time to head outdoors and venture out into the countryside! I can’t imagine a better way to enjoy the colourful fall foliage than touring a winery with a glass of wine in hand! Wine tours allow you to learn about the fascinating history and process of winemaking while also teaching you to refine your palette! Wine tasting also gives you the perfect opportunity to try out some fresh and fancy cheeses and other gourmet delights!
Have a Halloween Movie Marathon
There’s no doubt that Halloween is going to look a bit different this year. While we may not be able to dress up in crazy costumes or attend Halloween parties, you can still find ways to celebrate from home! Movie nights always make for great dates, and a Halloween movie night is the perfect way to get you into the spirit! When you spend the night in, you can cook dinner together, break out the wine, watch festive movies, munch on snacks and cuddle under a cozy blanket! Sounds like a romantic time to me!
Have a Pumpkin Carving Contest
Put your pumpkin carving skills to the test and compete against your significant other to see who can create the best design! You can send photos to your friends and family and have them judge which design they think is best! Alternatively, you could also post pictures and a poll on your social media channels and get your followers engaged! You should also try challenging other couples to a contest! You can use platforms such as zoom or skype to show off your designs to each other afterwards!
Go Horseback Riding
Horseback riding can provide a unique fall adventure that couples can enjoy together! There are different trails that you can go through based on your skill level, so there’s no need to worry if you’re a beginner! There are a few places that actually offer a “horseback riding date” package that will include snacks, drinks and a commemorative photo of the occasion! Take the reins and plan a date on horseback! It will be a memorable one!
Plan a Weekend Getaway
A weekend away does wonders for the soul. It is so much easier to relax and wind down when you’re far away from home and the regular hustle and bustle of daily life. A romantic weekend getaway is a trip that I always look forward to and actively try to plan throughout the year. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy some alone time with your loved one! Some of my favourite weekend activities are going out to brunch, cycling together through forest trails, and exploring new areas looking for local boutiques and quaint cafes! Dedicating an entire weekend to unwinding and spending quality time with each other will help keep that spark alive!
Explore Local Fall Fairs and Festivals
I am a sucker for carnivals and I look forward to my local fall fair every year! What’s not to love? Carnival snacks are known for being outrageous and over the top and if you aren’t going around trying them all out, you’re doing something wrong! Between the food, games and rides, you will always find things to do at a fair! This year, your local fair may look a little different as they will have to abide by new laws and rules. You may even have to schedule your visit, so be sure to plan ahead! I suggest trying to plan your visit on a weekday in order to avoid large crowds or lines. Keep a bottle of hand sanitizer with you and do your best to stay safe!
Depending on where you are located, you may not feel comfortable venturing out into crowds just yet. If you aren’t able to make it to a fair, maybe you can bring the fair to you instead! There are a ton of fun recipes for carnival snacks that you can try making at home! Spend your day feasting on homemade fair foods and substitute carnival games for board games or video games! If you’re interested in trying to make your own snacks, check out this amazing list of 60 Fair Food Recipes!
