Yesterday was Macaron Day here in Toronto and to celebrate, I wandered the streets in search of the most scrumptious macarons! Not that I ever need an excuse to indulge in these treats, but it did make me feel better to know that 25% of all macaron proceeds were being donated to different charities and shelters! After visiting almost ten different shops, I walked away with over 30 macarons, all of which were different flavours! And so, I present to you my top 5 picks for the best macarons in Toronto! Check them out down below!
Starting off with my #1 choice, Butter Avenue has always been a favourite of mine! Siblings Tina & Calvin opened up their shop back in 2011! Now with two locations (Yonge/Lawrence & Queen/Spadina), they offer a variety of flavours at $2.25 each! For macaron day, they partnered with David Lee to make three incredible limited edition flavours: Uji Matcha Passion Fruit, Greek Yogurt Black Currant & Dark Chocolate Blood Orange! My personal favourite of the three was the greek yogurt macaron! They should really make it a signature flavour!
Notable flavours: Sea Salt Caramel, White Chocolate Strawberry, Earl Grey, Lemon Poppy Seed, Mont Blanc
2. Petit Nuage
Remember that phrase “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover?” Well, this place may not look like much from the outside but the macarons here are amazing. Petit Nuage is an adorable little shop located in Market 707, where vendors operate out of shipping containers. There’s not much space inside so only two to three customers can be in the shop at one time. Macarons here are only $2 each and they offer a lot of unique, asian inspired flavours!
Notable flavours: Lemon Lavender, HK Milk Tea, Vanilla Rose, Nimbus
3. AG Macarons
Anet Gesualdi Macarons is an eye catching shop located on the Queensway with another location on Dupont street. The elegant design and décor of this shop is what attracted me to it the first time I passed by. AG Macarons offers singles for $2 and offers 15 signature flavours as well as many seasonal. They also offer macaron making classes, a workshop I hope Jayde and I will soon attend!
Notable flavours: Birthday Cake, Red Velvet, Vanilla Bean, Cappuccino, Strawberry Cream
With multiple locations open in the GTA, Nadège should be on every macaron lover’s list of places to try out! Macarons here will cost you $2.30 each, and can be purchased as singles, a duo, or in boxes. For macaron day, they had over 20 different flavours to choose from! I purchased a box of twelve from here and it was extremely difficult to decide which flavours to get when you have so many great options!
Notable flavours: Champagne, Cotton Candy, Rose, Exotic Caramel
This pastry shop not only sells macarons but also cakes, pastries, pies, cupcakes and more! The owners Allyson and Sarah frequently appear on The Marilyn Denis Show and have even published a book in which they share their most amazing recipes! Macarons here are $2.50 each but are definitely worth the price!
Notable flavours: Passion Fruit, Mint Chocolate, Gianduja, Cassis
